Lazer Quest- Victory for LCF!

Many thanks to those who came to the Lazer Quest event. Turnout was excellent, we had twice as many members as Labour did. Once again we won the battle, adding the scores from both CF teams together we secured a clear victory over the one Labour team.

WEAK WEAK WEAK

This week saw the State Opening of Parliament, which saw the Queen set out the government's agenda for the next year. However this speech was built up to be the Prime Minister's vision for the country. Now I sat and listened to the speech, ( the shortest Queens speech in the last 10 years), and I heard about the policies which he had promised the country back in July, but I did not hear the vision that he had for the country. This was a speech that could have been produced by a Blair government, but the difference would have been that a Blair government would of made the speech flow coherently. I really felt sorry for the Queen when she had to read something which was incoherent. Maybe the Incoherent nature of the speech was his vision!

At 2.30pm the same day, the MPs returned to the Commons to debate the Loyal address. The first two speakers where the MP’for Sheffield Central (Century) and the MP for Brent South. They were both comical and tried to talk about issues that effect their constituencies. However you knew that the real event was going to be the debate between David Cameron and Gordon Brown. Cameron stood up to reply to the loyal address, and you saw a man who was confident, and knew what he had to do. My favourite parts of his reply were the reference to Blair being a strong leader (whatever you thought about him), and he has been replaced by a weak one. I also enjoyed it when Cameron said “the difference between his policy and our policy is that we thought of it and he stole it”. Brown in his reply tried to catch Cameron out on the idea that the Conservatives lack policy. All I can say to that is if the Conservative party did not have any policies, the government would be up the creek without a paddle. Towards the end you could see how angry he was, especially as Cameron had once again taken the wind from his sails.

My final thoughts from the speech are, the Brown government has no vision, let alone a coherent one. Many say that he is surrounded by a weak team, but I argue who chose them? All I can say is that the lack of vision, means Brown is WEAK, WEAK, WEAK! This week also showed David Cameron setting out a positive agenda and a real vision for Britain.

CF Versus Labour Club

On Monday (12th November) we'll be meeting in Furness bar at 6.30pm before heading off to Morecombe to bring Labour Club down at Lazerquest! We should be playing two games each (£5.95 with an NUS card) and you can get some drinks at the bar there. The Megazone also has pool tables and arcade games whilst you're waiting if you're interested. It's proven to be a good night from when we've been before with Labour Club, but we need to keep our reigning title at beating them. If you want to come along or need some more information, just contact me by email or phone (07751244097).

Chairman’s Reflections

It seems hard to believe, at least from my perspective, that we are half way through Michaelmas 2007; time does seem to go astonishingly fast whilst in the midst of a busy and hectic University term. Lancaster Conservative Future has continued to grow from strength to strength, securing record membership at Freshers’ Fair and we have since maintained good attendance at society events. Already we are developing a core of new members who are proving to be enthusiastic and committed Conservatives. Once again the society is showing itself to be a dedicated and effective campaigning organisation; we are setting the political agenda on campus with a range of campaign ideas and we continue to be an invaluable asset to Eric Ollerenshaw as he proceeds with the fight for Lancaster and Fleetwood. Lancaster Conservative Future is indicative of the Party as a whole; rejuvenated in our spirits and committed to Cameron and his pledge to bring about positive change in the UK. Indeed it is quite a contrast to the flagging Labour Government whose waning fortunes seem to be reflected in the lack lustre Lancaster University Labour Club in what has been a very poor year for them in terms of membership numbers; they are a society that shows visible signs of failing optimism and disillusionment.

As Lancaster Conservative Future’s Chairman I am immensely proud of this society, indeed I believe we have a lot to be proud of and our achievements haven’t gone unnoticed, only last month we received praise from the Rt. Hon. William Hague MP in his keynote conference speech. I pledge to maintain the vibrant and optimistic atmosphere in the society, and hope that for the remainder of my time in office I can continue to grow Lancaster Conservative Future to become ever more effective and noteworthy for the benefit of the Party and future generations of Conservatives at Lancaster University.

Saturday 10th November: Action Day

There will be a action day on 10th November (THIS SATURDAY) to deliver leaflets and the Conservative newspaper in the Scothforth area. This will be the first chance for many new members to meet Eric Ollerenshaw. Our Parliamentary Candidate for the new Parliamentary constituency of Lancaster and Fleetwood. A lunch will be provided afterwards with Eric so this really is a chance for CF to show that it can make a difference and help Eric win. The group will be meeting outside Booths supermarket at 10.30. If you can attend then please email me back: n.vose@lancs.ac.uk or give me a text on 07922993185. Lets try and get as many of us out there and make a real difference.
